FAMILY FUN IN MALLORCA

As Mallorca, one of the Brit’s best loved holiday destinations, gears up for its summer season, herewith a round-up of attractions for all the family in the forthcoming months when an anticipated five million holidaymakers will head for the island.

Agualand Mallorca (Magaluf), Aqualand-Aquacity Mallorca (Arenal) and Marineland Mallorca (Costa den Blanes) have recently become part of the Aspro-Ocio Group, one of the largest operators of themed fun parks in Europe.

On Mallorca entrance prices start at 16, 50 euros per adult (approx £11.00) and 11,25 euros (approx £7.00) per child in Marineland, which has been established for 34 years as a marine zoo. At the Aqualand Water Park attractions include The Boomerang and The Tornado. The park also features a mini park for small children with an Enchanted Castle and a huge killer whale. www.aqualand.es/magaluf/mallorca

Western Water Park, Magaluf. Themed water-park with entertainment. Shows feature high diving, Mexican dance and Family Cowboy show. Tickets cost 16.50 euros per adult and 11 euros per child. Confident that families will want to return, a special promotion is being offered at 30 euros per adult and 18 euros per child, which entitles you to use the facilities all summer long. Hidro Park & Super Golf, Puerto Alcudia. Water park with three 18-hole mini golf courses. Entrance costs per adult: 14 euros. Children under 4 go free and reduced prices for children aged between 5 – 11. Further information: (+ 34) 971 891672.

Festival Park (6 Km from Palma on Palma-Inca motorway), which opened in 2002, now features a 20 screen cinema (screening films in English every week), 35 restaurants and bars, over 35 factory shops with clothing, sports gear and shoes at factory prices, a discotheque and a 22 lane bowling alley and various attractions for all the family including the Green Planet.

Green Planet – claims to be Europe’s largest reptilarium featuring 6000 different animals from 72 areas around the world split into 6 regions. Open 365 days a year. Throughout the day, keepers bring out reptiles from their cages so that everyone can get up close and touch them. Descriptions of all the reptiles featured are in English. Ticket prices: 10 euros (approx £6.50) per adult and 7 euros per child.

Festival on Ice has just launched as Mallorca's first permanent ice rink at Festival Park. Entrance prices: 7 euros per adult and 5 euros per child under 10. On Mondays and Tuesdays there is a special price for all visitors of 4 euros per person. Opening hours: Monday - Friday from 5 pm to 12 midnight. Weekends from 4 pm - 12 midnight.

La Reserva, Puigpunyent. A nature reserve on 2.5 million sq metres of land around the Puig de Galatzo. Featuring a great variety of vegetation, animals and 30 waterfalls. Various “adventure” activities are available from rock climbing, abseiling to the “flying fox”. Recommended for children over 8 years of age.

Natura Parc, Santa Eugenia. Featuring a wide variety of local wildlife, particularly birds and butterflies. Children can get closer to animals in a special area for friendly species ! More information Tel/Fax: + 34 971 144078.

La Granja, Esporles. Go back in time and visit this large historical mansion (dating back to the 10th century) surrounded by 20,000 m2 of beautiful Mediterranean gardens. Features include free tasting of local produce, demonstrations of traditional handicrafts and a special horse dressage, which is featured twice weekly (Wednesdays & Fridays) with folk dancing and music. Entrance price per adult is 11 euros (on show days) and
