MALLORCA SET TO BECOME A GOLFER'S PARADISE
Four new golf courses are due to open in 2006/7 providing an excellent variety of courses for all levels and abilities.
Mallorca, still the most visited overseas destination by the British travelling public, is now set to be the centre for golf in the Mediterranean. The island currently has 19 courses in operation, two of which are private. Now plans to extend existing courses, and build new courses are under consideration by the local government. To date a further four new courses have been approved and are under construction and or near completion:
Golf Park Puntirň
Will be the first of the four new courses to open in June of this year. It is located only 10 kms from Palma near the village of Sineu. The 18 hole par 71 golf course has been designed by the Nicklaus Team. The design incorporates the natural environment of the course creating an entertaining and stimulating tour for players of all levels.
Jack Nicklaus Academy. This course is also the first on the island to feature a golf training centre based on the teaching methods developed by Jack Nicklaus. The course’s team of teachers have all been selected and trained in the Nicklaus Academy, which uses the latest technological advances to teach golf including a swing analyser.
The course also features an extensive driving range area and short game training area with greens, bunkers and other obstacles to simulate real conditions of the game. The club house includes a pro-shop, restaurant, terrace, changing room, club storage facility and hire shop.
Membership at this golf course also entitles you to membership at any of the 120 golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus around the world. A further three courses are currently under construction:
This 18 hole (par 72) course is located in the area of Llucmajor approximately 15 minutes from Palma, and is scheduled to open in August of this year. This course is will pride itself on its modern design and extensive quality facilities and equipment. There will be ample training and practice areas with a driving range and putting green. The elegant Club House will feature a bar and restaurant with a pro shop. In addition, to the adult training facilities, the course will also have a child training academy.

Son Quint Golf
A member of the Arabella Golf group, this course is located between Golf Son Vida and Golf Son Mutaner on Palma city’s outskirts and is approximately 15 minutes drive from Palma’s International Airport. The 18 hole (par 72) course is scheduled to open in spring 2007. The course will share its Golf Academy with the facilities of Golf Son Mutaner and will fall between the demands of both existing courses in length and difficulty.

Golf Son Gual
This 18 hole (par 72) course is located in the grounds of an old estate. It is the innovative design of German architect, Thomas Himmel and incorporates an Italian-style palazzo, small vineyards and a 1.2 km artificial river featuring 28 cascades and a waterfall beneath the clubhouse at the 18th. Son Gual when it opens later this year will feature some of the largest tees in the world. Water is a predominant feature on the course with seven lakes making this course not only visually appealing but also exciting to play over so much water.
Son Gual is located approximately 15 minutes from Palma’s International Airport off the main road to Manacor.
