SPRING IN PALMA DE MALLORCA

What's new in the Mediterranean's most elegant capital ...

PALMA, the capital city of Mallorca, has more recently been described as the “new Barcelona” and the city’s town hall is now keen to promote the city's year round attractions, culture and wide range of restaurants and cafes. So here is a round-up of activities for this spring.

NEW SHOPPING GUIDE

A new shopping guide is now available in English featuring approximately 40 shops and 50 different cafes and bars. The guide offers the visitor a choice of 4 different routes around Palma which takes you to the most exclusive, most traditional, most historic and the liveliest shopping areas of the city. The guide gives an approximate time it takes to complete each route and features cultural points of interest.

The guide features 40 shops and 50 cafes, bars and bakeries.

NEW CITY TOUR

The Palma Monumental city tour takes visitors on a walking tour (lasting approximately two hours) around 19 different historic buildings and areas. The tour will now be supported by a twenty minute video which essentially is a documentary guide to Palma tracing its history from the city’s foundations by the Romans up to the present day. :

A new “Monumental Palma” leaflet is now available with a detailed descripton of the tour together with a complete list of the 16 museums in Palma with opening hours throughout the week. The tour costs 10 euros per person. Go to any of the tourist information offices for more information or call,

NEW CITY HOTEL

The new Hotel Continental will open at the end of March near Palma’s main shopping streets. The hotel is privately owned by a family which have been hoteliers for over a century and originally opened a hotel in Palma of the same name, which closed in 1993.

The new four star Hotel Continental features 52 rooms, three small conference rooms with audio visual equipment, café/bar and room service and a spa & fitness area. All the bedrooms have satellite television and internet connection, which is available throughout the building. Guests can enjoy all non alcoholic beverages from the mini bar free of charge. Parking is also free of charge. Prices start from 150 euros per room, per night, based on two people sharing to include breakfast with a 20% discount at weekends.
