SUMMER 2006 ROUND UP OF MUSIC ON MALLORCA
This summer Mallorca has even more to offer the music lover from jazz to classical and pop…
Chopin Festival. Every Sunday from 10 pm throughout August the annual Chopin Festival will take place in the cloisters of the Cartuja of Valldemossa where the famous composer spent a winter with his lover George Sands. For more information: www.festivalchopin.com.
Deia’s International Classic Music Festival. Son Marroig, which was the summer residence of the Austrian Archduke Luis Salvdor, provides an idyllic setting for this festival. The concerts start at 9.00 pm in the month of June, at 9.30 pm in July and 10.30 pm in August. For more information: www.soundpost.org.
The Pollensa Festival will run throughout the months of July and August and take place in the cloisters of the Santo Domingo Convent in the heart of the town. For more information: www.festival.pollenca.org).
The Bellver Castle provides a dramatic setting overlooking the Bay of Palma for The Bellver Festival, which will run from June 14 and in July on 6, 13, 20 & 27th. The festival will also feature a special Summer Serenades Festival in August featuring various recitals, flamenco, pop and rock. For more information: www.palmademallorca.es.
Summer Concerts at the Palau March.. The “palacio” of this wonderful museum will host a series of concerts this summer on May 26, June 30th and July 7th. Further information: www.fundbmarch.es.
Port of Soller Festival. In September and October this area of the island will be featuring the pianist Alexander Malter and members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra performing works of Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Brahms etc…the concerts will take place on September 30th and October 7th, 14th & 21st. Classical Concert in a typical Mallorcan Finca
On June 24th a concert will take place in the Ca’n Tasa finca in Portol (approx 20 minutes from Palma). Barry Sargent and Rumiko Harada will be performing works of Mozart, Debussy and Brahms. The audience will not only be able to enjoy the music but also dinner with the performers after the concert.
Another concert is planned on October 20th with the Austrian Paracelsisus Quartet (www.dacapo-klassik-seminare.com).
Jazz etc…
The 2006 Jazz Voyeur Festival, now in its 3rd year, is offering a line up of international performers including Gloria Gaynor, Roberta Flack, the Brad Meldau Trio, Herbie Hancock and Toquinho. For more information and tickets: www.jazzvoyeurfestival.com.
The International Sa Pobla Jazz Festival will be presenting a range of free jazz concerts in August in the town’s main square. More information: www.ajsapobla.net/jazz.
Mediterranean Nights– in June and August at the Costa Nord Cultural Centre in Valldemossa various artists will be performing including: Gloria Gaynor, Cesarea Evora, Tomatito and Michel Camilo. More information: www.costanord.com.
The Palma Town Hall each year organises “Nights in the Fresh Air” these outside concerts take place in the Parque de la Mar in front of Palma’s cathedral. A whole range of concerts, films and theatre will be running throughout the summer. More information: www.palmademallorca.com.
