MALLORCA TOURIST BOARD 2006 AWARDS
The Mallorca Tourist Board honours the BBC and tennis star, Rafael Nadal in this year's awards.
The BBC’s much acclaimed “Wild Mallorca” programme, broadcasted several times this year on BBC 2, has been included in the Mallorca Tourist Board’s Awards for Best TV Documentary, which will be presented at their annual dinner on November 28th in the Balearic University’s School of Tourism & Hostelry.
“Wild Mallorca” was selected primarily because it looked behind Mallorca’s highly successful tourism industry and investigated another aspect of the island that so many tourists are not aware of. According to the Tourist Board’s President, Alvaro Middelmann; “The BBC has created an extraordinary programme on Mallorca’s stunning wildlife highlighting the island’s own indigenous varieties of animals and plant life filmed against the island’s stunning landscape”.
A gold medal goes to Mallorca’s own Rafael Nadal currently the world’s number two tennis player. Apart from his evident talent on the court, Rafael has been honoured for always promoting his home island of Mallorca.
This year 14 awards will be presented in recognition of either personal achievement in the tourism sector or commemorating a special anniversary within the island’s tourism industry.
