MORE LOW COST AIRLINES INTO PALMA
Four new airlines to feature Palma this spring
Daily scheduled services from the UK to Palma de Mallorca have been available for many years. However, since Easyjet started up its daily service from London Luton to Palma six years ago, many other low cost airlines have followed suit. Easyjet now offers a choice of eight daily flights to the island from around the UK, and claims to have 58% of all scheduled air traffic from the UK on this route. Now other companies are following suit, and 2003 looks set to be the “boom” year for budget flights to the destination.
Four new budget airlines will be featuring Mallorca this spring. These include: Excel, www.excelairways.com, which is operating flights from Gatwick to Palma starting on May 3rd. Departures are twice weekly (Sat, Tues) with a lead price of £79. Excel currently operates a weekly Saturday service from both Glasgow and Manchester with prices from £139 and £129 return. Flights booked direct on the internet, qualify for an additional £10 discount.
Air Scotland, www.air-scotland.com will come on line with a scheduled service from Glasgow on March 29, from Edinburgh April 11 and from Aberdeen from June 17. Prices start from £25 one way. Globespan, the Scottish based tour operator, has launched www.flyglobespan.com and will be offering daily departures from Glasgow-Prestwick to Palma from April 1, with prices from £49 one way.
Finally, Jet2, www.jet2.com starts its regular service from Leeds Bradford from April 8 (4 times weekly), and daily from May 1st with prices from £22 pounds one way.
In addition to these services, British Midland - BMI (daily from Heathrow), GB Airways and Air Europa out of Gatwick, all feature Mallorca year round.
