DISCOVER PALMA'S HISTORY ON FOOT

Walking around Palma is one of the most popular activities for visitors to one of the top city break destinations in the Mediterranean...

Mallorca continues to be one of Europe’s most successful tourism destinations with a record over 9 million visitors in 2006 and in the past 10 years its’ elegant capital of Palma has also become a destination in its own right. Regular scheduled flights by low cost airlines have transformed Palma into one of the most accessible cities in the Mediterranean all year round.

Against the backdrop of the city’s rich history and ancient old town, it offers a huge range of restaurants, cafes, bars, nightlife, entertainment, shopping, boutique hotels, art galleries and museums. In the past 10 years millions of euros have been spent on the restoration of the facades around the old town and the result is a vibrant, beautiful city with plenty to offer the visitor throughout the year.

Two years ago, the local town hall created a special department to look after its visitors and started to develop more activities for the visitor to enjoy during their stay. Apart from shopping and eating, visitors enjoy exploring the city and the best way to do this is on foot with a guided walk. These walks have become a very popular and demand increased by 25% last year.

A new programme of walks has just been launched from this month up until March featuring four different themes:

Monumental Palma
Modernism in Palma
The Jewish Quarter
The Convent of the Capuchin Nuns

The cost per person is €10 euros and all the walks are featured in several languages. Check with the local tourist office or website for more details. For more information: www.itineraris.org or Tel: + 34 971 720 720.
