MALLORCA LAUNCHES NEW SEASON OF JAZZ CONCERTS
Mallorca has gone "jazz mad" and this year's highlights include: Chick Corea, Alan Barnes & Alec Dankworth...
Mallorca continues to make its mark as a centre of cultural activities in the Mediterranean with a new line up of jazz concerts for 2007. Starting with the first of the Jazz Voyeur productions and the “Dirty Dozen Brass Band” and their special tribute to Marvin Gaye on March 30th.
Concerts will be held almost every month and will include international names such as American jazz musician and composer, Stanley Clarke; the Harlem born leading latin pianist and Grammy Award winner Eddie Palmieri; the Afro Caribbean All Stars and the highly acclaimed San Francisco Jazz Collective with Joe Lovano and Dave Douglas.
Concha Buika will make her debut this year in Palma singing her own unique mix of flamenco jazz, funk, soul together with flamenco guitarist Niño Josele; the great jazz pianist and composer and Grammy Award winner, Chick Corea will be accompanied by banjo maestro, Bela Fleck and finally a Christmas concert is scheduled with Marlena Smalls and the Hallelujah Singers.
The majority of all concerts will take place in Palma’s historic Teatro Principal, which has just completed a full refurbishment. Ticket prices start from €20 - €50 euros. Further information: www.jazzvoyeur.com
The Real Club Nautico in Palma will host a couple of concerts in collaboration with the Jazz Club at the nearby Hotel Saratoga. Starting with the Dixie Swing Band, April 12th ; Tony Lakatos, May 3rd; Afro Blue Band, June 3rd and December 13th; Perikas Jazz Reunion on September 6th and Steve Waterman and the Blue Note Quintet, November 8th.
