SPORTS ROUND UP FOR 2007

Mallorca is now the ideal location for international sporting events...

Mallorca continues to be one of the best loved overseas destinations for the British travelling public. Now major investment in sports facilities around the island, combined with a wide range of quality accommodation and the island’s excellent climate, has meant that it is emerging as an ideal location to host international and European events which has broadened its appeal to sports fans.

Herewith a selection of sports events for this year:

Round Island Fun Cycle, April 28 – May 1st.

Open to all and particularly aimed at tourist visitors, the International Round the Island Cycling event will be in four stages. Cyclists can participate in just one or more or all the stages. The objective being on fun and enjoying cycling around Mallorca’s wonderful countryside. Each participant receives a certificate on completion of each stage and invitation to the open supper and “fiesta” on the last day.

Other cycling events include the 42nd International Cycling Circuit, April 18-22, which is open to amateurs and professionals and the International Cycling Masters Week, October 7-13, which is open to all cyclists over 30 years of age who belong to the Cycling Federation. Top European Football Teams Meet
With Their Most Promising Under 11’s, 8-10 June, 2007.


This year for the first time, the resort of Cala Millor (east coast of Mallorca) will host the First International Youth Football Tournament where eight of Europe’s top football teams will gather with their most promising under 11’s young footballers. These clubs include: Ajax Amsterdam, Inter Milan, Arsenal FC, Valencia, Everton FC, Hertha BSC (Berlin), Sevilla FC.

European Basketball Championships, 3 – 5th September.

Palma has been selected as the fifth location for the European Basketball Championship – Eurobasket 2007. In Palma the preliminary games will be held between Germany, The Czech Republic, Lithuania and Turkey at Palma’s new sports arena. Further information: www.eurobasket2009.org.
