NEW ARTS & CULTURE WEBSITE

A new website has been launched to promote Palma as a city break destination and to focus on the year round cultural programme, art galleries, exhibitions and museums, mainly in Palma but also throughout the island. www.turart.net includes maps, itineraries, programmes and latest news on the island’s art scene.

The creation of this multi-lingual website is in response to visitors’ demand for indepth information online when planning their visit. In recent years, Palma has become a popular city break destination and the majority of visitors now tend to book independently using the internet. This website is intended as a complimentary aid to get the most out of the city and indeed the rest of the island for any visitor.

Palma’s famous arty fiesta the “Nit de Art” will this year take place on the night of Thursday, September 19th, when over 30 galleries around Palma together with all the museums preview their latest collections and invite visitors to wander round, many venues provide finger food and beverages.

NEW CAPPUCCINO CAFÉ

Café society in Palma is very important and one growing Mallorcan company, which started 15 years ago, introduced the concept of cafes in emblematic buildings or locations, serving quality teas, coffees, cocktails, meals and snacks. In total, the group now has nine Cappuccinos around the island.

In Palma there are now four Cappuccinos in Paseo Maritimo, Calle San Miguel (in an old “palacio”), Plaza de La Reina (below the Palau March). The latest has opened on the site of one of Palma’s oldest fabric shops which had been established over 180 years ago producing original Mallorcan fabrics to Spain and South America.

The interior has tastefully retained many original elements of the shop which has been decorated the interior with samples of fabrics, reels of thread, old order and sample books and the original wooden counter.

Recently, Cappuccino launched its own collection of music which has become very successful with overseas orders via the Internet from the UK, Germany and even as far afield as Japan.

In addition, to cafes and restaurants, the group launched its own Cappuccino Take Away store and with this brand the company has now decided to expand its horizons beyond Mallorca and will be looking, among other overseas destinations, to the UK, and specifically London, to open its first franchise operation.
