FURTHER INVESTMENT IN MALLORCA'S CONGRESS & CONVENTION FACILITIES
Recent figures show a 50% increase in convention and meetings business on the island over the past four years.
As part of its ongoing campaign to welcome visitors year round, Mallorca’s public and private sector is investing heavily in new convention and meetings facilities. Results of a recent survey by the Mallorca Convention Bureau indicate that Mallorca’s meetings and convention business has increased in the past four years by over 50%. In 2007 a total of 2,240 meetings and conferences were held on the island attracting 102,000 delegates.
The majority of business comes from companies in the medical, automobile, technologies and sports sector based on presentations and incentives. The bulk of public investment in this sector is now focused on the Palma’s new Congress Palace, which is now well underway and is scheduled to open in the spring of 2011.
The Palma Congress Palace by Spanish architect, Francisco Mangado, will be a dynamic contemporary style building located in front of the sea on Palma’s Paseo Maritimo close to the city’s emblematic gothic Cathedral. The main auditorium will have capacity for over 2400 delegates with the option of splitting into two rooms, which can be used simultaneously or independently.
Other features include an exhibition hall, a multi-functional room, a restaurant, a terrace restaurant plus a complete range of top level conference services and technology will also be available. An adjacent hotel with 270 bedrooms will connect to the top level of the Congress Palace and will feature a restaurant, a garden, gymnasium, swimming pool etc… Further information: www.pcongresosdepalma.com
