BRITISH INVESTORS TO CONSTRUCT NEW OLYMPIC POOL FOR OFF SEASON TRAINING
Blue Water Elite Swimming Training (BEST), which is run by former swimming stars, James Parrack and Matthew O’Connor whom have competed respectively in the Olympics at Seul in 1998 and Barcelona in 1992, are investing €2.5 million in a brand new, 50 metre, 10 lane Olympic pool for off season training.
The company, which organised the training schedule for the British Olympic Swimming Team on Mallorca before the Bejing Olympics last year, believes that the island is ideal for training and has selected the location of Colonia San Jordi because it is beside the sea, surrounded by great beaches and good quality hotel accommodation.
The heated, covered pool is scheduled to open in early summer and will include essential facilities such as gymnasium, meeting room, shower and changing facilities for disabled swimmers, medical and massage rooms and an audio visual suite. Reservations are being taken for September 2009 and it is hoped that they will train many potential swimming stars for the 2012 London Olympics. Information: www.bluewatertrainingcamps.co.uk.
