RECORD BREAKING YEAR FOR CRUISING IN MALLORCA

The Port of Palma is due to break all records for cruise ships in 2010.

The Port of Palma is set for its best ever year and will receive over 1.3 million cruise passengers throughout 2010 on 553 ships as opposed to 424 ships and just over a million passengers in 2009. Palma de Mallorca has become a key destination for cruising and now ranks third as the most popular cruising destination in the Mediterranean behind Barcelona and Civitavecchia.

A 23 million euro investment made in 2008 to enable the Port to handle “mega” cruise ships to visit Palma has now paid off. Furthermore, Royal Caribbean International has confirmed that Palma will be the base for its “Grandeur of the Seas” luxury ship in response to demand from the UK and Irish markets. The ship’s first season will commence in summer 2011 and reservations can be made now for those packages. Information: www.royalcaribbean.com.
