NEW HOTELS OPENING IN MALLORCA

Regardless of the current economic climate, new hotels continue to open in Mallorca and demonstrate the complete range of accommodation the island is able to offer.

This year, new hotels have opened in country areas demonstrating the popularity of rural tourism and the attraction of experiencing the “other” Mallorca. On the coast new properties include; a spectacular boutique hotel on the site of an old fortress, a hotel aimed at the gay community, a traditional seaside hotel is transformed into a modern contemporary resort hotel in Cala Millor and the new Rocks Hotel opens in Magaluf with launch concert featuring the Brighton rock band, The Kooks.

NEW Rural Hotel Openings

Son Galcerán, Esporlas.
Located on the outskirts of this traditional village in a beautiful valley surrounded by the Tramuntana mountain range, Son Galcerán opened in April 2010 as an “agroturismo”. It is a typical Mallorcan finca estate dating back to the 18th century with 12 rooms decorated in traditional Mallorcan style. Petit Hotel Alaró, Alaró.
This historic large townhouse has been converted into a hotel and is located in the heart of the picturesque mountain village of Alaró with views of the Tramuntana Mountains all around. It has seven rooms, a small garden and swimming pool. It makes a great base for walkers and cyclists. Prices start from: 85€ per day to include breakfast based on a two people sharing a double room. Sa Franquesa Nova,Villafranca de Bonany.
This stunning 17th typical Mallorcan manor house surrounded by the “Sa Franquesa” estate has been converted into a 24 bedroom hotel to provide the maximum in modern comfort and facilities. The hotel features a swimming pool spa area, outdoor terraces, gardens and its own restaurant. NEW Hotels Beside The Sea

Cap Rocat, Cala Blava (opening June)
This spectacular 19th century fortress has been transformed into a luxury boutique hotel located on its own private headland overlooking the Bay of Palma. The hotel grounds are located in an environmentally protected area rich in birdlife, flora and fauna and yet only 20 minutes drive from Palma Airport.

The hotel has been designed by leading local architect, Toni Obrador, who was successfully worked with the fortress architecture to provide a light and modern design with touches of the building’s original function.

It has 24 rooms and suites which have been created from the old munitions stores and each one has private terraces with wonderful sea views. It features two restaurants; The Fortress and the Sea Club, an open air restaurant right on the seafront serving grilled fish and meat. The hotel also caters for private functions of up to 250 people. A wide variety of sports activities can be enjoyed in and around the hotel.

Marins Playa Suites, Cala Millor (opening June)
This is a good example of an old hotel which has been completely refurbished in contemporary modern style to provide 65 suites overlooking the sea in a privileged location right beside the beautiful Cala Millor beach. Hotel Pegasus Playa, Playa de Palma
This recently refurbished hotel has been re opened to serve the gay and lesbian community and provides two star accommodation with 30 double rooms, a restaurant and 24 hour bar. A large swimming pool and sunbathing area facility is available by another hotel nearby which is in the same group. Mallorca Rocks Hotel, Magaluf (opening June)
The new “Mallorca Rocks” Hotel has 328 rooms, swimming pool, restaurant/snack bar and will celebrate its opening on June 6th with a concert by Brighton based pop band, “The Kooks”. This concert will be one of first five signature concerts by top selling bands during this year’s summer season. The Rocks Hotel is the brainchild of Andy McKay who opened his first Ibiza Rocks Hotel in 2008 it is aimed at the youth market providing quality accommodation and entertainment with good value.

Casal d’Arta, Artà
Located in the centre of Artà, the Casal d’Arta is a typical historic townhouse which has changed ownership and undergone a major refurbishment to provide an eight bedroom, boutique hotel offering personalised service and spectacular views over to the Castillo de Sant Salvador. Hotel Puro, Palma
Located in the heart of Palma’s old town the Hotel Puro has been a success story since its opening in 2004 .
