GO EAST TO ENJOY SOME OF MALLORCA'S BEST BEACHES

Caribbean style beaches are only two hours flying time away from the UK on the east coast of Mallorca. The group of award winning beaches; Cala Millor, Cala Bona, Costa de los Pinos and Es Ribell are some of the most beautiful on the island with long stretches of white fine clean sand and clear blue water.

Back in the 1960’s the resorts of Cala Millor and Cala Bona were among some of the first on Mallorca to actually implement a plan of creating a promenade beside the beach with all the hotels behind. Both resorts have invested heavily in upgrading and refurbishment of public areas, provision of sports facilities, restoring monuments and historical features, maintaining clean beaches and offering a wide range of accommodation suitable to every family budget.

Sports Facilities

These resorts offer plenty of sports activities for the visitor including the demanding 18 hole Pula Golf Course at Son Servera (www.pulagolf.com), badminton & tennis courts; fishing, horse riding, go-karting, scuba diving, hiking, windsurfing and kitesurfing. Annual events include one of the stages of the Mallorca Cycle Tour know as the “Challenge” in February, the International Youth Football Tournament in June spotlighting the young football stars of the future with teams from all over Europe such as; Arsenal, Everton, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and in October the International Balloon Regatta where visitors can also sample flying in a hot air balloon.

Historic Features

Pre-historic settlements – “Talaiots”
This coastline also has great archaeological significance in Mallorca’s historic past with 77 archaeological sites of pre historic settlements known as “Talaiots” dating back to 1100 BC. Two sites can be visited; Na Pol Talaiot is in the centre of Sa Coma and has a circular plan of 12.5 metres in diameter with walls formed out of great blocks of stone it also has a small natural underground cave. The S’Illot Talaiot is literally in the middle of the Cala Millor resort
Is one of the most important and was first inhabited in 1100BC with a population of approximately 200 who farmed the land, reared domestic animals such as sheep and pigs and hunted. The central part features a quadrangular “Talaiot” surrounded by 35 chamber dwellings. Information: www.talaiotsillot.com

Sa Punta de n’Amer
This small peninsula covers approximately 500 acres between the two resorts of Cala Millor and Sa Coma and is a protected natural area of special interest specifically for its flora and fauna. Visitors can walk along the headland and enjoy the spectacular views particularly from the 17th century watchtower known as the “castle” which served as an observation post and first line of defence. Leaflets with full information and suggested walking itineraries are available from the local tourist offices.
