HEAVY INVESTMENT IN SPAS AND BEAUTY CENTRES ON MALLORCA DEMONSTRATES DEMAND FOR NEW HOLIDAY EXPERIENCE

Now visitors to Mallorca can enjoy the benefits of a "health farm" in the warmth of the Mediterranean. New five star hotels opening on the island have all included Spas and Health and Beauty Centres as part of their facilities. This trend is born out by existing four and five star hotels which have, in the past few years, also invested in luxury beauty and Spa Therapy facilities. Visitors can choose from just under 30 hotels throughout the island featuring these facilities.

For example, the recently opened five star Mardavall Hotel & Spa, features sauna, solarium, vapour baths, and "sole basin" a salt water pool, which recreates the effect of the Dead Sea. Hotel guests can take advantage of a wide range of treatments including aromatherapy, thalassotherapy and massage.

The newly opened five star Royal Dorint Golf Hotel & Spa also provides complete facilities for the guest looking for "top to toe" health experience. Facilities include pool, jacuzzi, sauna, Turkish bath, beauty treatment centre, fitness room, physiotherapy, thalassotherapy and weight loss programme.

The Pula Suites Hotel has opened with a brand new Thalassotherapy Centre including a range of programmes from an "anti-stress" four-day package to slimming, vein & rheumatism therapy and even post-natal treatments.

Many existing four and five star hotels have invested in "health and beauty". For example, the five star Hotel Son Vida, Melia Victoria and Arabella Sheraton all feature health beauty centres and the Hotel Valparaiso Palace has recently refurbished and invested in new health and beauty facilities.

Four star hotels, such as the Nixe Palace, have included these facilities as part of their refurbishment and the Eurotel Golf Punta Rotja now features an impressive new Thalassotherapy Centre, which includes a heated sea water pool, jacuzzi, Turkish Bath, saunas and gymnasium offering various treatments.

Tomeu Deyŕ, Director of the Mallorcan Tourist Board, says; "Although Mallorca continues to cater to the family market it has invested heavily in diversifying its product in the last few years to meet the demands of the more sophisticated traveller looking to get away from it all.

Daily flights from around the UK mean that the individual traveller can take full advantage of these facilities and enjoy all the benefits of a health farm in the warm Mediterranean climate".

The Mallorca Tourist Board is a private, independent entity which was founded in 1905. It is therefore considered to be the first ever tourist board in Europe. The objective then was to create awareness of Mallorca as a destination. Now, almost a 100 years later, it ranks as one of the favourite holiday destinations of the British.
