MORE MICHELIN STARS FOR MALLORCA’S TOP RESTAURANTS

The prestigious Michelin guide has announced that two new restaurants have been added to the list of existing Michelin starred restaurants in Mallorca. The newcomers are “El Jardin” in Port Alcudia and “Es Fum” restaurant in the St Regis Mardavall beside Puerto Portals. They join the existing list of Michelin star restaurants in Mallorca who have all retained their stars and include: Tristan’s Restaurant, Puerto Portals; Es Moli d’en Bou, Son Servera; Es Racó d'Es Teix, Deià and Zaranda in the Hilton Sa Torre hotel near Llucmajor.

NEW MICHELIN STARS

Es Fum, St Regis Mardvall

Located in the luxury five star St Regis resort close to Puerto Portals. Es Fum features Mediterranean cuisine prepared with first-class products by chef, Thomas Kahl. Signature dishes include: Bouillabaisse of Red Mallorcan Prawns, 24-hour poached Presa of Iberian Porc with Osietra caviar and Saddle of Aragon Lamb with mustard and chives. The average price for four courses is 94€ including local tax (excluding wine). A six course tasting menu starts at 128€, and eight courses for €141. El Jardin, Puerto Alcudia

This family business is headed up by female chef, Macarena de Castro and her brother Daniel. Located in the traditional seaside resort of Puerto Alcudia the menu is strictly Mediterranean with the focus on locally sourced products, fish, seafood and meat. The tasting menu features 3 starters, 5 main courses and 3 desserts and starts at 70€ per person (excl. wine). Typical dishes include: tabouleh of pinto beans with duck; lobster with white garlic; sea cucumber with peppers; ‘Bollit de Cap Roig' (Red Scorpionfish stew); Iberian pork cheek cooked with Mallorcan Sobrasada and salsify vegetable root. EXISTING MICHELIN STARS

Tristan Restaurant, Puerto Portals

Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year under the helm of Chef, Gerhard Schwaigner, Tristan was first awarded a Michelin star in 1987. The restaurant’s top location alongside the fashionable harbour in Puerto Portals makes it a great spot to enjoy its trademark fresh seasonal cuisine. Es Moli d’en Bou, Protur Sa Coma Playa

Mallorcan Chef, Tomeu Caldentey, opened this restaurant in 2000 and was awarded a Michelin star in 2004. His philosophy is to offer creative and simple cuisine based on traditional Mallorcan recipes with a contemporary spin using fresh, seasonal produce. A 5 course midday menu is available during the week for 37€ p.p.(excluding wine and local tax). A 7 course tasting menu starts at 55€ (excluding wine and local tax). Tel: + 34 971 569 663. New Collaboration with the Puro Hotel Private Wing, Palma

This month, Caldentey announces a new collaboration with the Puro Hotel for the hotel’s “Private Wing” which features 11 suites and its own self contained kitchen and large dining table with capacity for 25 people. Es Raco d’es Teix, Deia

At the foot of the Teix mountain in the picturesque village of Deià, Chef Josef Sauerschell, has created menus based on clean and distinctive flavours, where the focus is on the classical Mediterranean kitchen with a modern twist. Zaranda, Hilton Sa Torre

Last year Zaranda was awarded a Michelin star for its innovative Mediterranean cuisine under husband and wife team Fernando and Itziar who launched the first Zaranda restaurant in Madrid six years ago. The entire team moved to Mallorca to continue to offer the highest quality produce – focusing on locally sourced food wherever possible. Fernando Perez Arellano has trained in some of Europe’s most famous restaurants including London with Michel Roux Jr. at “Le Gavroche”.

A choice of two tasting menus are available from 76€ per head (112€ inc. wine selection) or 89€ (139€ inc. wine) per person.
