BETTER VALUE MALLORCA FOR OVER 55'S

Over 55's visitors can beat the British winter and save pounds.

This winter Mallorca will represent better value than ever for the over 55’s market on long stay holidays as the local government “eco tax” is now being scrapped.

The tax, which was introduced in 2002, meant that tourists staying in hotels had to pay 1 euro per day. On long stays of 28 days this will now mean a saving of approximately £20 and for longer stays of up to 98 days, visitors will save approximately £68.

Leading tour operators such as Thomson’s “Young at Heart” programme feature long stay holidays from 28 days up to 98 days or longer if requested. For example, a 28 day stay at the Santa Lucia four star hotel in Palma Nova starts at £775 per person. The price includes half board, return flights, and a full programme of activities and extras such as tea and biscuits each afternoon. Thomson calculate that this year, the average price of a long stay holiday on Mallorca is £9.28 per day. For reservations call: 0870 550 2555 www.thomson.co.uk.

Saga Holidays feature 28 night stage from £879 per person with extra weeks from £229 at the four star Delfin Siesta Mar hotel in Santa Ponsa. The price includes, full board, return flights, insurance, six excursions, free bar, and the Saga cocktail party and dinner. For reservations call: 0800 056 5880 www.saga.co.uk.

In addition to the tour operators’ own activities, Calvia Council, in the South West corner of Mallorca, launches its 11th winter programme in the five resorts of Magaluf, Peguera, Illetes, Santa Ponsa and Palma Nova.

The scheduled free activities include keep fit and Tai Chi sessions on the beach, yoga, tea-dances, ballroom dancing classes, bowling, guided walks, classical and contemporary music concerts, “fiestas” in typical Mallorcan style, photography, drawing/painting competitions and open air shows.

The popular Winter in Mallorca programme is being re-launched in November of this year and will feature a variety of concerts and activities are offered free of charge, throughout the island’s top resorts during this winter.
