MALLORCAN TOURIST BOARD ANNOUNCES AWARDS FOR 2003
In this year's awards a wide selection of people/organisations have been included.
ABTA; The Times Newspaper; Tennis Pro, Carlos Moya; Palma Pictures and Good Food Routes are among the prizewinners announced by the Mallorcan Tourist Board this week.
A gold award has gone to ABTA in its 50th Anniversary year in recognition of the Association’s sustained support to the Mallorcan tourist industry. This co incides with ABTA’s annual convention to be held in Palma this month for the fourth time in the Association’s history.
The Times Newspaper has been awarded for its general travel reporting and specifically for its travel section supplement entitled “Mallorca’s Style Revival” published in September of this year on the development of Mallorca’s tourism industry.
International Tennis Pro, and Mallorcan, Carlos Moya, has been awarded not only for his sporting achievements on the international tennis circuit, but also for his role as “roving ambassador” for Mallorca and for his support in ensuring that Mallorca is included in top tennis tournaments such as the ATP circuit.
Local film production company, Palma Pictures, has also picked up an award in its 10th anniversary year. This news co-incides with the announcement that Palma Pictures will be producing a new film on Mallorca in 2004 called “Savage Grace” to star Julianne Moore. They will also start filming “Poetic Unreason” on the life of British poet Robert Graves.
Finally, the Mallorcan Ministry of Agriculture, has been awarded for developing “Good Food Routes” throughout the island providing an excellent promotion to all visitors for local produce.
This year’s awards will be presented in Palma in December to commemorate the Tourist Board’s 98th Anniversary.
The Mallorcan Tourist Boad is a private, independent entity which was founded in 1905 . The objective then was to create awareness of Mallorca as a destination and to study and implement how to promote the island to potential visitors. Today it is committed to constantly improving the tourism product and functions as a forum where tourism professionals debate important issues, policies, and decide on the future tourism strategy.
