MICHAEL DOUGLAS TO PROMOTE MALLORCA

DOUGLAS SIGNS DEAL WITH BALEARIC GOVERNMENT

Hollywood actor, Michael Douglas, will promote Mallorca at international tourism fairs over the next four years. This agreement to make personal appearances at specific events, is part of a deal struck with the Balearic Government to acquire the Costa Nord Cultural Centre, which Douglas created and opened four years ago in the historic town of Valldemossa where he resides part of the year.

The agreement, worth 4.8 million euros (approximately £3.3 million), will be officially signed with Michael Douglas at the World Travel Market Fair in London on November 12th. The Costa Nord centre will continue as a cultural centre and become the new headquarters for the Balearic Government’s Environmental Foundation.

Douglas’ relationship with the island started some 20 years ago when he bought the “S’Estaca” estate where he still resides part of the year with his wife, Catherine Zeta Jones, and his young family. Over the years he has been very supportive of the promotional activity of Mallorca culminating in the development of the Costa Nord centre in which, under the new agreement, he will still retain a share.

His genuine affection for the island and support has long been recognised by the islanders, and in 2001 Douglas was given a special gold award by the Mallorcan Tourist Board.

Mallorca has benefited enormously by its association with the famous from the Royal Spanish Family, who spend their summer holidays on the island, to models, politicians, film, sport and pop celebrities.
